Spring Art Activities
Hi! Welcome to spring! It always feels crazy this time of year with everyone wanting to get out of their house post winter, I have a lot of things going on, some I can share right now and some I will be excited to share in the future - so lets get into it!
First is that my dragon illustrative series is still going strong, I have finished the second which you can see below this paragraph, and the third is being worked on right now. I am especially excited for the third as I am documenting the whole process. I have been really inspired by a few artists recently and how they produce their YouTube videos. I feel like YouTube is moving towards a much healthier space than any other social media platform. It feels more organic, documentary, and authentic than it ever has before. Which is why for this third one I am filming an unscripted step by step process of making one of these dragon illustrations. Some of the themes being working on my art while maintaining a full time job and there is a transparency kind of inside scoop as to how I have been making these new drawings. I hope everyone will enjoy seeing it as it is very different compared to my past videos. The third dragon is also shaping up to be the coolest one so far. I don’t want to spoil it with previews, so I hope the finished second dragon below will suffice!
In a previous blog I mentioned how I will be teaching a class and giving a presentation at Fort Madison Area Arts Association, that was originally scheduled earlier this year but it ended up being delayed for weather related reasons. The new date that has been picked is May 14th, from 6-8pm. If you happen to be an artist in southeast Iowa, or at least nearby I hope you can attend! The class is titled “Art Marketing 101” and I will leave the invitation down below for you!
For the first time but surely not the last I want to share some work that is not my own, but rather some I was inspired by. Graphic Designer Kel Lauren recently designed the Seattle Krakens green night, which is a night dedicated to sustainability. I am a huge Seattle Kraken fan, and a huge Kel Lauren fan. Her design is featured on a variety of merchandise items and showcases native wildlife from the area. It is incredibly inspiring, the color palette and composition in the design are brilliant. I actually bought the hockey puck featuring the design when visiting Climate Pledge Arena back in November. I highly recommend checking out Kel Lauren and their work! There is video of them featured on the Seattle Krakens YouTube page that gets into more specifics!
Lastly, I have never claimed to be a writer. You are incredible for reading this far. That being said, I do like to write a poem when the mood feels right. Today I will leave you with. poem that I wrote last spring. Thank you again for checking this out, have a wonderful rest of your day!
The trees will talk if you listen to them
If no interrupted by a honey bee
The trees will talk if you listen to them
With the sound of crunching leaves
The trees will talk if you listen to them
And tell you secrets of the wind and breeze
The trees will talk if you listen to them
So have a seat in the provided shade underneath
